Frequently Asked Questions

Here's what to know about working with me as a licensed clinical social worker providing online therapy in North Carolina and Florida.

Please reach us at sunshinehaventherapy@proton.me if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I provide online therapy for adults 23+ in North Carolina and Florida who are navigating anxiety, perfectionism, chronic overthinking, people-pleasing, and relationship challenges. My style is warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental, while also offering thoughtful challenges and gentle accountability as trust and the therapeutic relationship develop.

Yes. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in North Carolina (License C015810 ) and Florida (License SW 14754). You can verify my license through the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensing Board and the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling.

Online therapy takes place over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, so you can meet from home or another private space. Once a free consultation is completed and we have decided we are comfortable with an intake session, I will send you a secure link and intake forms through a HIPAA compliant Electronic Medical Record System. Sessions are 60 minutes and work much like in-person therapy.

Yes. I can only provide therapy to clients who are physically located in NC or FL at the time of the session. If you're traveling outside those states, we'll need to reschedule or pause sessions.

My fee is $200 for an intake session and $150 for a 60 minute individual session. Payment is due at the time of session through the following payment methods : HSA / FSA and Credit Card.

Yes, I am in-network with select insurance plans. If I am not in-network with your plan, I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. I recommend checking with your insurance plan directly to understand your out-of-network benefits and coverage. You can also review my current rates and insurance information on my Insurance & Rates page.

Book a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation using the button below. We’ll briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and determine whether we might be a good fit to work together. If it feels like a good fit, we can discuss next steps and schedule your first session.

Most clients begin with weekly or biweekly sessions, with the frequency adjusted over time based on your progress and how closely you are meeting your treatment goals. We’ll work together to determine the session cadence that best supports your needs and ongoing progress.

The length of therapy depends on your individual needs, goals, and progress. Some clients may notice meaningful changes within a few weeks, while others benefit from longer-term support. We will regularly check in on your progress and adjust the approach as your needs and goals evolve.

Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions, such as concerns about serious and imminent harm to yourself or others or suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult. I’ll review confidentiality and its limits with you in more detail before we begin, so you understand what to expect.

The safety and well-being of a client is extremely important to me. I do not provide emergency or crisis services, so if you are experiencing a mental health emergency outside of a scheduled session, please call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.

If a crisis or significant increase in symptoms occurs during a therapy session, we will first take the time to understand what is happening, assess your current level of safety, and identify the support you need. This may include developing or reviewing a safety plan, increasing session frequency, involving additional supports when appropriate, or discussing a higher level of care. Emergency services would be considered when there is an imminent safety concern that cannot be appropriately managed through outpatient support.

To honor the time reserved for each client,  24 hours’ notice is to be provided if you need to cancel or reschedule. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice or missed appointments will be subject to a $75 cancellation fee. I value your time and the commitment we make to our work together. If I need to cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, I will provide one complimentary cancellation for your future use.

Before your first session, you will be asked to complete a few intake forms and review the practice policies and consent information. Completing these ahead of time allows us to spend more of our first session getting to know you, understanding what brings you to therapy, and beginning to identify your goals. A copy of your license will also be requested for verification purposes. All these documents will be stored in a HIPAA compliant Electronic Medical Record System.

For your first session, you’ll need a private, comfortable space where you can talk openly, along with a device with a camera and microphone and a reliable internet connection. A computer, tablet, or phone will work; whatever is most convenient for you.

You must be physically located in Florida or North Carolina. If you plan to attend your session somewhere other than your home, you’ll need to provide the address of your location before the session begins. If you will be joining from a parked vehicle to maintain privacy, the vehicle must remain parked throughout the session, and you will need to provide the location of the parked vehicle and relevant vehicle details in advance. These details help ensure your privacy, safety, and ability to receive services appropriately.

Yes. I offer online therapy in both English and Spanish for adults located in North Carolina and Florida. You can share your preferred language during your free consultation.

Legal letters and FMLA paperwork are not part of my services, but I’m glad to point you toward the right provider such as a forensic psychologist or medical physician.
